Stobor
Mortals descended from awakened facsimiles of people
Stobor (pronounced STOH-bor) are mortals descended from awakened facsimiles of people. Whether their ancestors were clay tomb sentinels raised by priest-kings, wooden puppets animated by fey tricksters, or porcelain dolls infused with life, that animating magic eventually settled into true flesh and blood.
Stobor are born, age, and die like other humanoids, living for up to two centuries, yet their bodies bear the unmistakable hallmarks of their crafted origins. A Stobor’s skin might possess the sheen of glazed ceramic or the faint grain of carved wood, wearing over time to a polished finish like a well-handled antique. Their bones and joints are impossibly precise, and their ability to remain unnervingly still for hours at a time reveals their artificial heritage.
Many Stobor communities are found in the oldest districts of sprawling cities, clustering in the trading quarters, workshops, and temple wards where their ancestors were once put to use.
A Stobor chooses whether to embrace or adapt the ancestral magic of their crafted lineage. The three lineages are described below.
Lineage Faience
Stobor who have the faience lineage heed the pristine magic of glass figurines and porcelain dolls. Their physical features often possess an uncanny perfection, with vivid coloration on their cheeks or faint lines resembling kintsugi.
Lineage Marionette
Stobor who have the marionette lineage carry the animating spark of wooden puppets and cloth mannequins. Subtle seams and lines often trace their joints, and their long, dexterous fingers reflect a history of performance.
Lineage Ushabti
Stobor who have the ushabti lineage trace their ancestry to stone crypt sentinels, clay guardians, or tin soldiers. Tending to solid, rigid builds, protective glyphs or the faint outlines of ceremonial armor are often etched directly into their skin.
